Changing Your Mind Changes Everything

Whenever God leads a person to uncharted territory, He first tells them to change their thinking.

 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand;
repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:15

These words were spoken by John the Baptist who was a catalyst for the coming kingdom. The word “repent” means to “change your mind”. It’s impossible to believe something new without changing your thinking or repenting. Note that though Israel was delivered physically from Egypt, they were still bound mentally to what was. There was required a mental transition from being a slave to walking in freedom in the new land. Israel was never able to shed their slave mindset.

Both God and satan are vying for our minds. God gets you to change your mind through revelation. Divine Revelation is open and honest and has nothing hidden about it – Thus it says, “God is light and in Him is no darkness”. Because He has nothing to hide, when God revealed the 10 Commandments, He gave it in “large print” form on two tablets. He constantly recapped these revelations throughout the Old Testament so that there was no question as to what He required of His people. When God reveals something to you, He allows you to make up your own mind. Because it is open, revelation gives you the option to say yes or no to something.

“I have set before you life and death… chose life that you may live”
Deuteronomy 28

On the opposite side is the way satan gets you to change your thinking – He uses “Inception”, which means “The beginning of something”- to plant seeds the way he did in Adam and Eve. Contrary to revelation (which is open and honest), inception is deceptive, subversive, and suggestive as it tries to sneak in through the back door.

For even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light
II Corinthians 11:14

Unlike God, Satan never shows you the small print on the contract or the price tags on the merchandise he is selling.  In Genesis, he planted a doubt in Eve’s mind when he asked Eve“Did God actually say?”, then he followed up with “You will not surely die”.  By inception, satan plants ideas that grow into aberrant actions. He does this so well that he even leads you to think it was your idea. Before you know it,  that small harmless seed becomes a formidable stronghold of bondage.

This is why a person can believe the most outrageous things even in the face of overwhelming proof to the contrary. Inception tries to bypass your conscience the way a sales pitch can make you decide before you even realize you are parting with your money. Satan tries to transform you by deceiving your mind – but God’s way is to transform us by the renewing of our minds.

Let’s remember what Peter said when he spoke of the management of your mind:

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:13
